Beginning in 2026, new federal legislation, the Working Families Tax Cut Act, will bring changes to how charitable giving is treated for tax purposes. While we are not offering tax advice, we want to share general information so you can be aware of how these changes may impact your generosity and planning.

What’s Changing? Expanded Giving Benefits for More People

Starting in 2026, charitable contributions may be tax-deductible even for those who do not itemize. This could allow individuals to deduct up to $1,000 and couples up to $2,000 in charitable gifts, making generosity more accessible for many.

Adjustments for Itemized Giving

For those who already itemize and tend to give more, deductions may apply to the portion of charitable giving that exceeds 0.5% of income, with certain limits in place.

Timing May Matter

Some donors may find that making or accelerating contributions in 2025 offers greater flexibility and potential benefits, especially for those who “bunch” multiple years of giving into one.

  • Many donors find value in exploring a variety of giving options, including:
  • Year-end gifts made in December, such as those made to our Holiday Match
  • Donations of appreciated assets, such as stock
  • Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from IRAs, which may reduce taxable income

We encourage you to choose the path of giving that feels most aligned with your values, intentions, and personal circumstances.
