PeaceIf there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.

If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.

If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.

If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.

If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.
—– Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher

If there is to be an end to the gun violence on our shores, the terrorism and hate across our oceans, and the wars that plague our earth, it has to start with me.

Beyond my prayers and good intentions for peace, I am now called to purge myself of any need to hurt, put down, separate, or destroy.  The time for a deep self inventory has come.  The internal shadows may take many forms both subtle and gross, but the world is letting me know that my time of cleansing must be now.  The time to address what is known and buried has arrived.  Remaining blind to any personal egocentric energies I am holding that are contrary to the oneness of all life is contributing to the unrest in the world. Pretending they don’t exist is a foolish masquerade that must come to an end.  I must be the change I want to see in the world.

What within me and in my small sphere of influence has added to the violence that plagues our nation and our world?  What toxic emotion or belief have I held that has spoken to the universe that duality is acceptable?

I will move from the safe haven of my good intentions and prayers into the public arena to face what needs facing, confront what needs confronting, release what needs releasing. and heal what needs healing in me!  I will make amends where they are needed and practice what I preach by forgiving anyone and everyone I have held at bay.  Do I truly believe in oneness?  Am I willing to stand in the fire for that oneness and humble myself to own that shootings and injustices find their life in a collective human consciousness of which I am a part?  I must if there is to be an end to the madness.

Today I offer peace to those who I do not understand.  I offer love to those who I have labeled my enemy.  I offer my heart to anyone who is hurting and my sacred promise to Life that my actions and words will more genuinely meet my prayers and desires for Unity.  I offer actions to my prayers knowing there will be an end to the violence, both internally and globally, as I play my part.

Please join me in the stand, in the purging, and in the becoming.
