Nominees for the UNA Board of Directors
Listed in Alphabetical Order
I was raised in a New Thought church as a child and deeply grounded in those principles. I found my spiritual home at UNA in 2003. My career has demanded that I work in different cities. Recently I finished 18 months in Ohio where I searched for a spiritual community. This experience strengthened my love for UNA. I promised to be of more service to my spiritual community when I returned to Georgia.
I have worked in the high-tech industry building and growing companies, products, and teams. As the Chief Product Owner, Chief Marketing Officer or the Head of Strategy I created software for small, medium and large companies. My work in both start-up and global software companies has sharpened and balanced my skills with financial planning, strategic planning and innovation. My passion is building high-functioning teams, leadership development, and engaged employees.
Today I transform my life to self-employment and to Service. In the past year, I have been a member of the Unity North Finance Committee creating the Capital Update for the Board last May. From there, I assisted the Board members to roll-out a series of Town Hall meetings known as the “Love It or List It” project. I created and led an all-volunteer Pledge Committee who raised more than $500,000 in Capital Campaign pledges in about a month. I also helped coordinate the 2017 Thanksgiving celebration at UNA. I have hosted and facilitated several small groups in my home. I’ve also attended Richard’s initial Leadership class. In the past, I was an elected official in Texas and served on several industry boards.
David grew up in The Democratic Republic of the Congo where his parents served as Presbyterian missionaries. He has explored quite a few religions and spiritual organizations, settling on Unity as the one that most closely aligns with his beliefs. David is the proud papa of 3 children and one grandchild (with the second on the way). He is active in volunteer work including Wellstar hospice, The Compassionate Friends, and the Survivors of Suicide. His youngest son, Nic, died by suicide in 2012.
His professional life has been quite varied, from Restaurant/Hotel Manager to Massage Therapist, to Vocational Rehabilitation Case Manager, and now to Digital Marketing. He has a BA degree in Psychology and an MS degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Georgia State University along with his massage therapy training from the Atlanta School of Massage. He has completed many additional classes in spiritual development, personal development, and business development.
David has been a leader with the Men of Unity, has volunteered continuously for Family Promise, and currently serves as an Usher Captain. David has previously served as a Prayer Chaplain, a Nursery Guide, has been on the Nominating Committee and Ministerial Search Committee, has hosted and facilitated numerous small groups, led Wednesday night meditations and has assisted with care and decoration of our facility.
Over the two years Terry has been at Unity North he has been involved in our community in many positive ways. One of his most notable accomplishments has been the organization and growth of our NGU Group, Next Generation Unity. The group was originally 4-5 young adults who met occasionally to have deep spiritual conversation and personal growth. Under Terry’s leadership NGU is now well over 25 active members strong that play an active role in our spiritual community. They have assisted many other ministries with various projects and hosted some of their own including Super Happy Fun Day, a two day event back in August which raised money to build a new playground for our children’s ministry.
Terry is also a member of our Ministry Leadership Team and has been an active Prayer Chaplain for the last two years. Terry has many leadership skills acquired over the years through his military training in the U.S. Navy, management roles, and being a business owner that he would like to put to use here in our community to ensure that it is here for many generations to come. Unity is home, this is family, and Terry looks forward to the opportunity to serve in the best way he can.
